Welcome to FRESH! An exhibit showcasing the talent of Arizona artists featuring their latest creations. We hope you will enjoy this exciting exhibit!
Spring is a time for new beginnings. For us desert dwellers we are now in the middle of our prettiest time of year. As such, we thought it would also be the perfect time to ask our artists to share some of their newest artwork for our Spring exhibit. That premise led us to title the exhibit, FRESH!
Thank you to all the artists who entered! We had the difficult job of selecting artwork from such a large pool of entries. If you are not one of our Selected Finalists, we do hope you will enter our next show. It is always good to keep your work in front of us.
We were certainly amazed at the diverse subjects and styles of art we received. This tells us that Arizona is a very robust state for visual art. Our Selected Finalists showed a very high level of skill, originality and execution in their respective art.
We can proudly say that, FRESH!, showcases the tremendous talents of Arizona artists. The high quality of art is shown through a broad range of subject matter and skillful use of a wide variety media. You will also notice that all our Selected Finalist artists are winners! And there are reasons for that. Mainly because it is not possible, at least for us, nor fair to our artists, to compare different genres and mediums to each other. Each artwork is different and unique, and should be viewed individually, not by comparison. At Artists in Arizona we celebrate that difference and the diversity that thrives in the realm of art.
Our exhibit format also provides the viewer with an opportunity to learn more about the intentions of the artists and their work through their written artist statements. These statements provide even more insight into the motivations of the artist. We encourage you to read them so you may learn more about the art and artist.
Thank you to all our Selected Finalists! We celebrate your time and talent and are honored that you shared your work with Artists in Arizona. You absolutely make our lives better by sharing your art with all of us! Thank you Artists in Arizona!
Now, it's your turn! We invite you to sit back and enjoy the show. We have chosen to exhibit the artworks in a "slow-art" slideshow format. You may select the thumbnail images to move forward at your own pace. When artwork is available for sale it is priced underneath its image. If a piece you are interested in is not priced, please be in touch with the artist to check the status of the artwork. We are also available to assist in that process.
SIGN OUR GUEST BOOK! We offer a guest book at the end of the exhibit so feel free to share your comments! Just indicate an artists name or add a general comment. We would love to hear from you!

Bruce is a versatile artist who has been experimenting with different media and styles, but his love for Arizona landscape paintings is evident in his creations. He expertly captures the essence of the southwest through his oil and watercolor paintings. Recently, Bruce has returned to traditional painting themes, focusing on oil paints to capture the unique beauty and mystique of the American Southwest. His work is inspired by the region's landscape, atmosphere, and light, resulting in captivating artwork that truly showcases the charm of the Arizona landscape. Bruce's paintings convey mood and atmosphere through his unique style, resulting in a compelling narrative of the beauty of the American Southwest.
Lin Boucher is an artist working from her home studio in Sun City West, Arizona. Her pastel paintings consistently garner top recognition in state and national art shows. I've lived along both sides of the Rocky Mountain Range since being born in Denver, Colorado and also lived in New Mexico for four years. I never could tolerate cold winters so my "creative psyche" would paint non-local, massive flower landscapes and Saguaro cacti desert scenes contrary to my environment. So, I've developed my own personal abstract style of southwestern, colorful, fantasy land-escapes and only paint with oils and usually only with palette knives.
I began drawing and working in clay in 1970 but ceramics has been my primary interest. "Clay as Art' is my goal and inspiration. My life's experiences and images from nature fascinate my imagination; smooth surfaces, texture, movement, and contrasts are often incorporated. I bring my many years of experience to every lump of clay; to shape from nothing, a piece which lives beyond myself with dignity and pride.
This year's super bloom, especially the poppies found me seeking the best places to paint and photograph. Each time I stood among the flowers painting, I was so awestruck at the beauty that all I desired was to somehow put down with paint some part of that experience. This pastel is another attempt, using those paintings and memory, to recapture those moments
I've intensified my two passions - caring for mother earth and bringing her beauty to the fore through my art. Anomaly is a climate term that calculates the deviation of temperature from a 30 year baseline. It's rising! "Gestural Anomaly," 40 x 30 inches captures the essence of this concern with the use of acrylic, graphite, and oil sticks. One viewer noted of the piece, "the white part is like the white-washing, "it's not real" attitude. You can deny science but it's still happening. The red is overtaking it until it can't be swept under the rug/paint any more."
Lighthouses are a sort of fascination for me. When I think about it, I believe it is really the lonely stalwartness of the beacon that intrigues me. They stand strong and alone in the fog and mist, steady as the vast deep blue sea crashes against them, warning passing vessels in the night of the craggy rocks nearby. I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoyed creating it.
My work focus is on the architecture of the unconscious and subconscious mind. Exploring different techniques such as long gestural strokes juxtaposed with bold mark-making helps me to create a disoriented mindscape. I layer my materials light and heavy to block out whole areas that construct an unfocused state. The mind intrigues me because things are often hidden from us.... What is hidden from the subconscious? I explore this process while pushing and pulling my way through the architecture of my mind.

I love exploring new materials and techniques, and with the new year, I've begun experimenting with oil over acrylics. This has let me combine representational art with abstract elements, which is combination I have always been drawn to.
I paint and specialize in landscapes. I’m known for depicting the skies of the southwest in both oil and watercolor. I absolutely love clouds as seen out West. I love what cloud shadows do to mountain ranges. I love the color on the land, and the color overall, whether it be intense or muted. I love depicting the desert and its beautiful and transforming skies at all times of the day.
Van Hawk practices abstract expressionism; still with the hints and traces of human figure she navigates her big canvases with gestural brush strokes and rich colorful palette.
Realism oil and acrylic painting of landscapes and nature that inspires me!
The terrarium sculptures are assembled with unique torch work glass beads and mixed media. Each bead is created in my Scottsdale, AZ studio with a dual fuel, oxygen/propane torch and kiln annealed to stabilize the glass. These one-of-a-kind creations are inspired by the amazing colors and textures of the Sonoran Desert.
The focus in my artistic career has been to enjoy creating while sharing my knowledge and expertise with others. Shared creativity feeds my soul.

Since quarantine, I have devoted myself to taking online courses in abstract painting and practicing it in acrylic and oil, mostly with cold wax, on paper or wood. It has been liberating and incredibly fun to let go and simply paint for the experience of it. That's not to say abstraction doesn't share the same good principles as all other types of artmaking and so it is still an intellectual exercise. It is also to say that painting emotion or impression is more interesting and fun than "getting a likeness."
My work explores the dichotomy between loneliness and being alone. In the 54 years I have been a professional artist/painter, my journey has taken me worldwide. After an adventure, I always return to Tucson to paint what I have experienced in relation to my work's running theme of being alone or lonely. The paintings from The Apartment series ask viewers many questions and present the possibility that someone has either just left the room or is about to enter. "Departure", from The Travel series triptych, is work that attempts to draw the viewer into nostalgia and may invoke memories of the bow of a large ocean liner. "Besame Mucho", from The Sunflower Lovers triptych, speaks for itself. One will not find a type of being alone in this work!

These new paintings continue my obsession with design – color, form and composition. I look for these in the natural world, and desire to present these in new, different and unique ways. Through color and texture, I emphasize the often overlooked aspects of the our environment and its compositional structures, while often downplaying or minimizing the obvious. The result is to force new ways of seeing … prompting surprising revelations about our world and ourselves.
Exploring materiality in service of beauty, I configure multiple layers of textures, vivid colors, and iridescent materials into abstract paintings that are at once ethereal and earthy. My creative process is an antidote to my tendency to overthink, as the act of making forces me to be present, favoring what feels right in that instant, instead of insisting on preconceived images and ideas. I follow "mistakes" and "tangents," using them to navigate the unknown territory of a work in progress. When I play with materials and trust the process, beauty coalesces from the layers of media.
I work in oil and cold wax creating vivid, topographical, sculptural, and multilayered paintings. As an abstract artist, I translate my perceived reality into color and shape, creating a “topography of place” in my work. Cross-pollinating ideas and visions from both the internal and external aspects of my environment and translating what I see and feel into my work is how I embody my creative process. It is just that – a process - one of discovery, learning, and being. I want people to see and feel the connectivity from the self - the inner landscape, to the earth, terra firma - the outer landscape through the visual conduit of color, shape, and gesture that all inform the texture, light and movement of a piece. In this sense, I consider my work as “abstract-expressive”. My work is a journey. Having lived in different regions throughout time, the topography, people, fora, fauna and cultural aspects of place have added direction, depth and nuance into the stories they each hold, the stories that the viewer can integrate into their own internal landscape.
"Chasing Summer" is all about the passion and fun of a hot summer day on the ocean. I enjoyed harnessing the colors and letting them go crazy while, at the same time, sailboats race each other through the waves.

To me, each sculpture is an opportunity to craft a unique thought, expression or emotion in a lasting medium of art.
Metal and mixed media artwork that stops people and evokes an emotion!
My “Now and Then” series uses parts of pencil drawings that I made years ago. Recently I’ve added many digital elements to each image creating a blend of old and new. It’s almost like 2 artists contributing to one artwork. However in this case it’s just me – the now and then me. In creating imagery, my goal is to make viewers stop and think about the world around us. I want each person to come back to my artwork over and over to see something more, spark a new thought, or view things from a different perspective. My goal is to create images that tell a unique story to each person about our world.
