SARAH HANSEGARD

Sarah Hansegard is an abstract painter, printmaker, and photographer, born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up along the banks of the Mississippi River where she found spiritual refuge along the wooded pathways that summoned her attention in youth. Dappled sunlight, rooted trails, and flowing water remain a permanent fixture for visual reference as she creates.

Hansegard paints large-scale abstracts through multiple transparent, watery layers of paint, that are laid upon the textures found below, and created through the use of graphite, charcoal, and pastel. These compositions explore shadow and light and represent the inner and outer journey, as the painting comes to formation.

Hansegard earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Arizona State University [magna cum laude] and has been painting abstract since 2016. She lives in Phoenix, AZ with her husband Matt and their three terriers.
