KARON LEIGH

Karon Leigh is a lifelong artist winning awards since high school, growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the California Bay area. She studied art at California College of Arts & Crafts, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the Kirkland Art Center as well as with numerous professional artists including Ron Pokrasso, Robert Burridge, and Nicholas Wilton. She has taught art workshops in printmaking and encaustic since 2006. Currently, Karon resides in Southern Arizona, working from her home studio in Tucson.

KARON LEIGH

Drawn to the beauty of the natural world, her paintings explore the landscape with a distorted and abstract perspective. The landscape and weather of southern Arizona are often her inspiration while the images come from imagination and are rarely a representation of an actual place, focusing more on how a place feels than what it looks like. Her work explores a sense of place, how we engage with the landscape, searching for those moments that feel like home. She creates intuitively, allowing the process to direct the art-making experience. Following the path of the expressionist painters, those who attacked their canvases with vigorous gestural expressionism, her art is grounded in personal experience, celebrating life with bold colors and sensual shapes.
